The idea was conceived in 1977 and 28 years later, the quiet revolution has arrived. The Spring Drive is based on the foundation of all mechanical watch technology, a mainspring, but uses an entirely new system for time regulation that delivers the equivalent of 1 second per day accuracy, and unique, glide-motion hands. The Spring Drive contains a mainspring made from a new high-elasticity material called Spron 510™ to deliver more power and a reserve of 72 hours. A "Magic Lever" system fitted directly to the shaft of the rotor provides ultra-efficient transmission of power to the mainspring. Finally, the Tri-synchro Regulator replaces the escapement of traditional watch mechanisms and regulates three types of energy: mechanical, electrical, and electro-magnetic. The balance wheel of traditional movements (escapement), which relies upon a back and forth motion to regulate the speed at which the spring drives the hands, is removed from the Spring Drive. The motion of the Spring Drive's movement is all in one direction, thereby virtually eliminating friction and improving accuracy.
