The epic 8,000-mile journey of Lewis and Clark into the uncharted interior of North America, is one of the great American stories of exploration and survival. Their mission entailed documenting the new land acquired through the Louisiana Purchase, and creating a map. Captains Lewis and Clark would be the first Americans to reach the Pacific Ocean entirely by land. Their signatures are presented in high relief surrounded by a background of river currents, representing the Missouri River, the full length of which they traveled. Both pens feature a map of the Louisiana Purchase with Lewis and Clark’s route engraved within. The Meriwether Lewis red pen cap features a telescope clip and compass rose engraved on the barrel. The William Clark blue pen bears a feathered clip and a Peace Medal to symbolize the many such medals they presented to Indian Chiefs along their trail. Each pen is guilloche engraved and showcases David Oscarson’s mastery of the art of hard enamel. This fifteenth collection of limited edition writing instruments is in 100 each of the two variations.
