Founded in 1889 by Georges Ducommun in the Canton of Neuchatel’s Dura Mountains in Switzerland, the brand was registered in 1910 as DOXA, a Greek word meaning “glory.” The name turned out be apt. During the evolution of automobiles and aircraft in the 1930s, Ducommun developed instrument panels for both, and the great automobile manufacturer Bugatti equipped its famous race cars with the DOXA 8-day watch movement, establishing DOXA as a manufacturer of sporting timepieces. When diving became popular in the 1960s, DOXA consulted with Jacques Cousteau and the US Navy to develop their inconoclastic SUB 300T in 1967. When best-selling author Clive Cussler fitted his adventurer-hero Dirk Pitt with an orange-dialed DOXA, his books spurred a resurgence of popularity among readers and divers alike. DOXA’s are designed with one purpose: to be the best diving watches ever made. Their glory is encapsulated in their motto: “Often imitated…never matched.”
